`Route Mortel (2017)

Route Mortel
9- 19th June 2017  |  Oerol Festival  |  Terschelling
14 - 23 July 2017  |  Over Het IJ Festival  |  Amsterdam

Route Mortel is a theatrical walk through the landscape, in which the twilight zone of death is explored. Through personal monologues of people who accompany dying, intimate film scenes, music, and a ritual death comes to life in many ways. With an eye for the tragedy, absurdity and beauty of the ending.

Route Mortel takes you to the everyday of the finite; an ode to the last moment of life.

"With Route Mortel, Thabi Mooi zooms in on one of the most intimate and emotional events in life. Her search to capture everything that comes with it seeps into the performance."  Cultuurpodium

"Once you're outside, blinking against the bright daylight, the visitor perceives her: Death. Tragic, absurd, but also beautiful somehow." - Isabel Baneke, Trouw

Inspiration

The term 'Café Mortel' was conceived in 2004 by the Swiss sociologist, Bernard Crettaz, shortly after the death of his first wife. In public cafés he organized meetings to give people the opportunity to speak freely about death.
